The Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival carries the theme: Crossroads of Cultures and Civilizations. The title may well serve as a symbol of impassioned dedication, building cultural bridges and fostering dialogue between West and East. The festival is different from other events in the sense that it has a smaller scale that creates more intimate and friendly atmosphere, continuing to garner international attention and respect. The festival has a special pan-Armenian competitive section - Armenian Panorama - for films produced by filmmakers of Armenian descent. The opening of the festival is always marked with a traditional blessing of apricots, the Latin name of which “Prúnus armeniáca” is translated as “Armenian fruit”.
