Goshavank

In 1188, Mkhitar, a prominent Armenian theologian and thinker, founded a temple in his native village Gosh and named it Nor Getik. Mkhitar is the author of a number of works; the most significant among them is his “Datastanagirk” translated as the “Codification of the Armenian Law”, which was the first in the country’s history. It had the force of law until XVIII century. Soon, in the monastery of Nor Getik, the author of the laws codification established a seminary, where he taught his students, many of whom eventually became part of history. Mkhitar Gosh was buried here, while the monastery was named Goshavank in his name.
