The monastery complex of Marmashen (X-XI centuries) is known as a prominent cultural and religious center of Medieval Armenia. The main church was named after Holy Mother of God. According to some sources, the name “Marmashen” derives from the name “Mariamashen” (translated from Armenian as a “the village of Holy Mary”).
